And the more known military highland walking kilt which is worn just over the knee. EAT
SCOTTISH FOOD YOU MUST EAT WHILE IN SCOTLAND
Haggis
A savoury pudding made from sheeps pluck AKA all the good stuff hearts, livers and lungs minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, salt and spices encased in a sausage encasing. Yeah it sounds off its head, but honestly give it a crack. The flavours of a well made haggis is something you shouldn't miss. I'm sure most of you out there have smashed one of them filthy hawt dawgs before and I feel guilty for even comparing the two.
Neeps&Tatties
Who doesn't love a bit of mash, well this Scottish twist on it uses potatoes, turnips and swedes and if you don't know what they are then you haven't been eating enough vegetables. (You will most likely be eating it alongside some haggis)
Scottish oats
Goldy locks would of ate all three bowls if she was in Scotland, it is there biggest export and its damm good also the oldest man in Scotland Alf Smith gives credit to it for his ripe age of 109 so eat up travellers we are trying to stay young for ever. Groats. https://www.instagram.com/groats.edi/?hl=en
https://goo.gl/maps/pZWRnaUq6vGkWytc9
Scotch Eggs
sausage meat wrapped around a soft boiled egg and coated in bread crumbs. Where did these bad boys come from? no one actually knows. Fortnum & Mason department store in London claims they started it in the 18th century others say that it was derived from the Indian dish Nargisi Kofta either way we know there actually not Scottish but the Scotts love them and they are delicious.
Scotch Beef
Aberdeen Angus Beef! If you are a proper carnivore and love your steak your in the right country. Scotch beef became well established once it was awarded the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) award in 1996 and was the first red meat in Europe to do so. Your probably thinking what the F$%^ s is that? Well farmers have to stick to a strict code of sustainable farming practises and by doing that they use traditional native breeds to Scotland such as Aberdeen Angus, Highland, Shorthorn and Galloway so when looking for a steak look for that PGI sticker or ask.
Scotch Broth
This slop of the gods is the perfect winter warmer and has been around since 1600's probably even earlier. It is so popular its been canned and dished out to groceries world wide by Heinze, Campells and other large companies. usually made up from barley, stewing or braising cuts of lamb, mutton or beef and root vegetables you know the Scotts love em such as carrots, swedes and sometimes turnips also dried pulses most often split peas and red lentils stewed low and slow just the way we like it.
Scotch Pie
naughty little meat bags of goodness, traditionally made from minced mutton and spices these days other meats are used as well. Think sausage roll slept with a pie and whats left is a scotch pie its the perfect one handed treat for a cold winters day smashing one back and a pint in the other hand watching the football. if your lucky some places will even put a bit of gravy on top mash or peas but still great without and yes they are different to a regular meat pie.
Cullen Skink
A soup thats roots lye within the little town of Cullen north east of Scotland a rich creamy soup made of smoked haddock, leeks, onions and potatoes and a bunch of herbs and spices. Today a lot of Scottish families have there recipe ad have been handed down from generation to generation.
Scottish Wild Salmon
You may of had salmon on a bagel or or even with your eggs benny so when in Scotland make sure you get you hands on some. Salmon is Scotlands biggest export, either hot or cold, smoked salmon has a rich history in Scotland and they produce some of the best in the world so definitely keep an eye out.
Battered Mars bar
